Slipknot share moving tribute after death of former drummer Joey Jordison: ‘Without him there would be no us’

The members of Slipknot have shared a moving tribute following the death of former bandmate Joey Jordison.

The later drummer’s family confirmed his death on Tuesday night after the musician died aged 46.

Friday saw the band post a statement addressing the loss, which read: ‘Our hearts go out to Joey’s family and love ones at this time of tremendous loss.

‘Joey Jordison’s art, talent, and spirit could not be contained or be held back. Joey’s impact on Slipknot, on our lives, and on the music that he loved, is incalculable.’

It concluded: ‘Without him there would be no us. We mourn his loss with the entire Slipknot family. We love you, Joey.’

A tribute video was also posted on the band’s official YouTube account.

Fans and friends alike were shocked to learn about Jordison’s death as his family said in a statement: ‘We are heartbroken to share the news that Joey Jordison, prolific drummer, musician and artist passed away peacefully in his sleep on July 26th, 2021.

‘Joey’s death has left us with empty hearts and feelings of indescribable sorrow. To those that knew Joey, understood his quick wit, his gentle personality, giant heart and his love for all things family and music.’

Jordison founded Slipknot in 1995 alongside Crahan and bassist Paul Gray, and played with the band until 2013, when he was dismissed from the group.

A statement from the group inferred the drummer left the band due to personal reasons, but Jordison denied he had quit Slipknot, saying the news had ‘shocked and blindsided’ him.

Later, Jordison claimed that he was fired from the band, and that his bandmates had confused his medical issues with a substance abuse problem, after he was diagnosed with transverse myelitis.

Transverse myelitis is a neurological disorder which causes an inflammation of both sides of the spinal cord, which interrupts the messages that the spinal cord nerves send throughout the body.

He performed on four studio albums – Slipknot, Iowa, Vol. 3: (The Subliminal Verses) and All Hope Is Gone – and produced the live album 9.0: Live.

Jordison was also a guitarist for the punk band Murderdolls and was playing with metal band Sinsaenum before his death.

After leaving Slipknot, he formed a new band, Scar the Martyr, in 2013, which was disbanded three years later.
