Strictly Come Dancing 2021 is almost returning to pre-pandemic normality – but Blackpool is still off the cards.

The BBC series was one of the few shows to still be able to go ahead during the pandemic, with celebrities and their pro dancer partners forming bubbles, although the series was cut short.

But executive producer Sarah James has promised it will return to its former glory this year.

‘We’re so thrilled that Strictly will be returning for a full-length series this year, and know how much viewers are looking forward to getting their full Strictly fix and seeing the return of much-loved specials,’ she told The Mirror.

She added: ‘We are all so sad that we won’t be able to get to Blackpool this year but can’t wait to be back dancing at the one and only Blackpool Tower Ballroom in the future.’

A source added to the site that bosses didn’t want to risk going to Blackpool for safety reasons.

‘Production had to make an early call on it and sadly couldn’t make it work due to the advanced planning and logistics required plus the uncertainty over the ever-changing Covid protocols,’ they said.

Fingers crossed for next year!

However, fans will have plenty to get excited about with Strictly this year, with themed weeks including movie week, musicals week and Halloween week, which had to be shelved last year, making a return.

Meanwhile, we’ve got four new pro dancers set to strut their stuff on the dance floor – we can’t wait!

As always, the line-up this year is majorly under wraps, but reports have suggested producers have their eye on Gordon Ramsay’s daughter Matilda for a spot, after she blew up on TikTok.

Peter Crouch is also thought to be up for consideration. If he does end up competing, the former footballer will break a Strictly record, becoming the tallest celeb to star.

However, he’ll have a lot to live up to after his wife, Abbey Clancy, won the 2013 series with Aljaž Å korjanec.

Meanwhile, after Nicola Adams and Katya Jones became the first same-sex couple on the series, fans are keen to see more representation, with Judge Rob Rinder revealing he’s keen to return to the show after his stint in 2016 and dance with a male partner.
