Grand Designs has become one of Channel 4’s most popular shows since it first took to the airwaves over two decades ago.

The series, which began airing in 1999, sees host Kevin McCloud following contributors as they try and live out the ultimate dream of building their own dream home.

As the show returns for another series, it seems there is no shortage of people wanting to bring their architectural projects to life – but if you’d like to apply for the show, just how do you go about it?

Here’s what you need to know…

How to apply for Grand Designs

Applications for Grand Designs are currently open, and more information is available at the Channel 4 website.

However, applying for the show is a little bit more complicated than applying for some shows, as you need to meet certain criteria to be eligible.

Currently, they’re on the lookout for people who have a project which is exciting and unique – if you’re doing something they haven’t covered before then they want to hear from you.

Projects also need to meet all the following requirements:

  • They need to be a new residential build, significant conversion or a restoration of a historic building
  • They should have unique or interesting elements in terms of design, materials, construction techniques, location and/or the people involved.
  • You have planning permission and are planning to live in the property yourself
  • You agree to be involved with the project and are available for filming on a regular basis

Currently, the show is also only looking for projects which are being undertaken in the UK.

If you meet all of the above and want to give it a go, the application form is right here.

Good luck!

Grand Designs is on Channel 4 on Wednesday night at 9pm.
