Britney Spears ‘won’t have final say over conservatorship’

Britney Spears reportedly won’t have the final say over her conservatorship, with the courts wanting to hear from medical professionals.

The Womanizer hitmaker is set to address a judge about her conservatorship, which has been in place since 2008.

It means that her father, Jamie Spears, is able to make financial, business and personal decisions for her, with fans calling for the popstar to be ‘freed’ from it.

If the 39-year-old asks the judge for the conservatorship to be ended, however, TMZ reports that it won’t be her decision alone.

According to the site, it’s ‘virtually certain’ it won’t happen without the sign off from a team of doctors.

It’s thought that judges presiding over the case will want to hear from doctors about if Britney can safely care for herself and for people she’s responsible for (such as her children) before making their decision.

Britney is reportedly fighting to be freed from the conservatorship in order to finally take care of her own wellbeing.

It has emerged that Britney wanted to have her father removed as a conservator as far back as 2016.

Scrutiny of Britney’s conservatorship mounted earlier this year following release of the documentary, Framing Britney Spears, breathing new life into the #FreeBritney movement and protests from fans.

Her appearance in court will be a landmark moment in the ongoing legal issue.

The legal constraints of her conservatorship may suggest that Britney has little control over her life, however a lawyer for the singer insisted last year that this was not the case, saying: ‘She’s always involved in every career and business decision. Period.’

Britney herself appeared to confirm this by telling fans on social media: ‘You may not know this about me but I am strong, and stand up for what I want!’

However, it had previously been claimed that Britney was afraid of her father, and that she would not perform until he was removed as her conservator.
