Canada’s Drag Race fans have expressed their sadness over the news that model Stacey McKenzie won’t be returning as a judge for season 2 due to ‘Covid-related challenges’.
Last summer, the first season of Canada’s Drag Race aired on BBC Three, with RuPaul’s Drag Race star Brooke Lynn Hytes judging alongside Jeffrey Bowyer-Chapman and Stacey as Priyanka was crowned the winner.
Earlier this year, it was announced that actor and fashion model Jeffrey would not be reprising his role as a judge for season two.
It has now emerged that Stacey also won’t be able to take part, in a statement released by the show.
‘#CanadasDragRace fans, we’re sad to share that Stacey McKenzie won’t be able to return for Season 2 due to COVID-related challenges,’ a tweet from the show read.
‘We’ll miss her killer lewks, positive vibes, & energy but know that she’ll be cheering on the S2 queens! Stay tuned for updates on our judges soon!’
Numerous Canada’s Drag Race fans are devastated by the news, with one saying that Stacey was the ‘best thing on the show’.
‘A shame, she was amazing during the first season and it was a joy to hear her deliver her critiques. I hope she’s ok and that she’s back on season 3!’ another said.
‘This feels sadder than any elimination,’ someone else remarked.
Another requested that Canada’s Drag Race ‘postpone’ the production until Stacey – who’s yet to comment publicly on the news – can return.
When the news of Jeffrey’s departure came in March this year, Brooke Lynn said that she and Stacey were going to ‘miss him so much’.
‘Jeffrey is filming his new show. He’s busy, he’s booked, and he’s getting paid, and, unfortunately, with the scheduling, things just didn’t work out for him to come back for this season,’ the performer said at the time, adding: ‘He’s going to be so missed. We love you so much Jeffrey.’
The stars of RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars 6 recently took part in a special photoshoot at Stonewall to kick off Pride weekend in New York.
Drag queens including Jan, Kylie Sonique Love, Silky Nutmeg Ganache and Jiggly Caliente were in attendance to pay homage to the historic site, remembering the impact that the 1969 Stonewall riots had on the LGBT+ rights movement across the world.
The first season of Canada’s Drag Race is available to watch on BBC iPlayer.
